The bronze cast sculpture depicts a weathered, mustached man wearing a cowboy hat Rough Rider who volunteered for service in the First United States Volunteer Cavalry during the Spanish-American War of 1898. The sculpture was cast in 1918 and is inscribed "Copyright by Frederic Remington, RRBW/USA"
